My apologies to the Trance Family for bringing you Trance Thursday a day late. This week I’ve got three brand new trance songs and a classic from OceanLab for our Throwback Track. I wanted to focus on getting back to the true trance sound this week. This means even faster BPM, pounding bass, and melodic breakdowns. The following songs definitely fit the bill!
First up we’ve got Armin van Buuren’s latest and greatest mashup, Try Understatement To Be Love. Armin uses the amazing vocals from Sunlounger & Zara Taylor’s “Try To Be Love” and layers them flawlessly over the beat from Mark Burton’s “Understatement”. Armin’s mashups are a thing of beauty. If I didn’t know, I would think this is an original production or remix rather than two songs being mashed together. The result is perfection.
Aly & Fila and John O’Callaghan collaborated together to bring us Vapourize. What I love about this song is how the sounds of each artist stick out. The deeper, darker, thumping bass has J.O.C. written all over it. When the lighter more uplifting and dreamy chords come in, the Aly & Fila influence is quite apparent. Overall, this song is an amazing production. You can be sure to hear this in many sets in the upcoming months.
Dutch producer 4 Strings has been in the trance game since the early 00’s. I heard his new track Out To Nowhere when Lange dropped it during his B2B set with Andy Moor at POP NYE. The song is quite mesmerizing and definitely goes off on a big sound system. I suggest cranking the volume up to the max!
For this week’s Throwback Track, I decided to pick something out of the crate of Oceanlab’s amazing work. Oceanlab is comprised of vocalist Justine Suissa and Jono, Paavo, and Tony from Above & Beyond. They’ve only put out one album to date, Sirens of the Sea, but it’s an absolute masterpiece. Today, I’ll be featuring the Gareth Emery remix of Lonely Girl. This song is melodic trance to the core. It’s so uplifting and evokes many different emotions through the combination of the melodies and lyrics. Rumor has it that A&B is working on some new OceanLab material for 2013…we can only hope that’s the case.
