Yesterday I put together a mix composed of a bunch of songs I love but don’t get the opportunity to play much, simply because of their tempo. I start out at 75 and end up at 125 bpm. Usually I make house mixes, or have a little Trap in there- but there is so much great stuff in between. Definitely an up tempo mix, hope you enjoy!
Pretty Lights is back with a new release titled Around The Block, featuring vocals and rap from Talib Kweli. I am a huge fan of everything pretty lights puts out, and I am so happy to hear the direction of this new album. His other recent releases were a bit dubby and heavy, and he (at least on this single) appears to have returned largely to his funk, soul, electro mixture that blends so beautifully together to create his sound. He is also creating a documentary to show different this process was than making any of his previous albums. As he states in his snippet, instead of using vinyl samples- he uses live instrumentation to create his depth of sound. As always, he will be giving away his masterpiece of an album ‘A Color Map Of The Sun’ for free July 2nd.
Check out the new single, the new video, and a sneak peak of the documentary below.

I’ve got a new mix for you today that I call The Trap House. I became kind of obsessed with the new sound that Trap was bringing to the game, and absolutely fell in love with mixing it. So I started the mix off in my typical up-tempo Dutch House style and finished it off with some of my favorite dirty Trap tunes of late. Hope you all enjoy listening as much as I love making it! See the track list below the download link.
Massive post for you today, I’ve got a brand new collaboration from Boys Noize and Snoop Dogg, a new track from one of my favorite producers ever Fake Blood, and to top things off a new 2 song EP from my boy John Dahlback.
Snoop Dogg goes back to the 90s on this track, his verses are reminiscent of a much better time for the ol’ Dogg. I’m not surprised it was a Boys Noize production that got Snoopy’s juices flowin again.
Fake Blood continues to be one of my favorite producers, and I love the variation he brings to his latest single Bionic. This one is a little more bouncy in that typical techno style, but still has his signature hard hitting dirty bass line.
To finish things up today, an absolutely ridiculous new 2 track EP from John Dahlack titled, Panic. I fucking love Dahlback, while Swedish House Mafia goes on their last tour and has everyone hanging on every last tweet, Dahlback is quietly destroying any swedish house producer in existence. His style is original, nasty and unrelenting. Enjoy!
Hope you enjoyed my last post, Bassnectar’s European Vacation Mix, because I’m here to follow up with a couple of the single tracks he features in the mix.
First, here is a Bassnectar bootleg of a Modeselektor & Ninjaman track called Weed Wid Da Macka. Very reggae influenced vocals, with a super hard dubby drop.
The first time I saw Bassnectar, he ended his set in Eugene with this remix of Lupe Fiasco’s Kick Push that he calls Land Of the Lupes (Download it below his VaVa Voom remix). Lorin was quoted describing how much he loved Lupe Fiasco’s sound and style. So when they finally teamed up to make VaVa Voom, it was nothing short of magnificent. The new VaVa Voom remix has almost a trap style feel to it and Bassnectar uses Lupe’s vocals to perfection. Enjoy!
Every time Bassnectar puts out a mix, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. Lorin is one of my favorite DJ/ Producers in the game, and one of the only ones left I like making “bass music.” His live shows are consistently out of control. He brings the dopest energy to each and every event, and his mixing is impecable. So when he puts out a mix that he can take a little time with….hold on to your socks. I just wish this was longer than 20 minutes.
If you know Bassnectar pretty well, you’ll really start to lose your shit at the transition around 12 minutes. He goes from his recent banger Ugly to a new Hip-Hop remix of Cozza Frenzy, then around 15 minutes he drops it into his recent single VaVa Voom. The last little snippet of this I loved was at the very end when he used a sample from E-40’s old hyphy track “Turf Drop” Just brought me right back to high school.
This ought to be a nice welcome to the weekend, enjoy!
